A dear friend of mine adopted a little girl from China several years ago. For her birthday I made her a Tote Bag with little chinese girls on it. This fabric so adorable! Black and White Jamestown Toile Tote Bag or Purse

I have to say that the Black and White Jamestown Toile fabric is very elegant. I also love the burgundy version of the same pattern. I made a black and white bag up for a customer and found out that I don't have much of that fabric left. I went online to see if I could purchase some more, but have not been able to find it. So, I only have on tote bag available left for sale. However, I do have 2 mom bags made out of this fabric. I have several yards of the burgundy and white fabric though. Week of December 20th

I have had a wonderful week of sewing. My little girl has been diligently by my side watching my every move. I can't wait until Christmas when she gets her own iron and ironing board (it's a toy, of course). Now she can work right along side of Mommy!

Now that we are officially on Christmas vacation, I'm hoping to get some sewing done in the evenings. I've been staying up until midnight sewing and cutting out bags. I love it. It's the only time I can find that I can actually finish something. I never realized how much I get interrupted until I try to sit down to sew. That's ok though. I knew it would be like that. I'll probably be doing most of my sewing at night or in early morning. My kids are still so little and need me a lot. I'm in no hurry for that to change :)

I'm looking forward to posting my new bags as I can.

Who Is Tabitha?

The Story Behind The Name

You may be wondering... "Who is Tabitha?" Why would I name my business after her? My business is named after a woman in the Bible. Her story is found in the the book of Acts, in the 9th chapter. Very little is mentioned about Tabitha, but her story has been an inspiration to me for the past several years.

This is her story:

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas, who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, "Please come at once!" Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. (Acts 9:36-42 NIV)

Her story reminds me that the things that we do for people today will matter to them after we are gone. Tabitha was a seamstress who made things for others and was always doing good. When she died, her friends showed Peter "the robes and other clothing" that she made for them. It obviously meant a lot to them. The text is not clear as to whether or not Tabitha had a sewing business or if she just made things out of the goodness of her heart, but I think it was probably a business, considering the time that she lived. I want to be a Tabitha more and more each day. I want the things I make for others to touch their hearts. I want my business to bring joy to others. I guess you can say that I have "a Touch of Tabitha" in me.
