Who Is Tabitha?
You may be wondering... "Who is Tabitha?" Why would I name my business after her? My business is named after a woman in the Bible. Her story is found in the the book of Acts, in the 9th chapter. Very little is mentioned about Tabitha, but her story has been an inspiration to me for the past several years.
This is her story:
In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas, who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, "Please come at once!" Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. (Acts 9:36-42 NIV)
Her story reminds me that the things that we do for people today will matter to them after we are gone. Tabitha was a seamstress who made things for others and was always doing good. When she died, her friends showed Peter "the robes and other clothing" that she made for them. It obviously meant a lot to them. The text is not clear as to whether or not Tabitha had a sewing business or if she just made things out of the goodness of her heart, but I think it was probably a business, considering the time that she lived. I want to be a Tabitha more and more each day. I want the things I make for others to touch their hearts. I want my business to bring joy to others. I guess you can say that I have "a Touch of Tabitha" in me.

About Us
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 19 years and together we have four beautiful children. We are a homeschooling family for the past 12 years. We have been living in the Dallas area since 2000 and absolutely love it here!
I worked House of Thread for about a year and a half, but I found it very difficult to keep up with everything, especially with a young baby in the house. Even though my business was thriving, I decided to put my business on hold until my youngest daughter was older. I wanted to spend my time with my children and put my energy in teaching them. It was during this time that I starting reading the Bible more and studying it. I was fascinated in learning from the women of the Bible, but came very intrigued with one women in particular. Tabitha, also called Dorcas. Tabitha became my hero (in a sense) because of the way she lived her life and by what was said about her after she died. Her story is found in Acts 9. Tabitha was the women in the community who always went around doing good deeds. She was also a seamstress. The people were touched deeply by the things that she made for them. She was truly loved by those who knew her!
So, when I decided to start my business back up again, after a 3 year break, I decided to change the name of my business to A Touch of Tabitha Bag Boutique because I realized that I had a strong desire to be like her. Now my business name has a whole new meaning to me! My business means so much more to me than just making money. It is more like a ministry to me now. I want people to be drawn to God when they deal with me. I want to be a "northern star" pointing people to Him. That is the purpose and goal of my business. If I accomplish that goal, than my business will truly be successful.
The main products that I make right now is tote bags and purses. I have a lot of plans for my business for the future, but right now I am happy with my totes. It is the one thing that I enjoy making the most! If you get the chance, please stop by and visit my website. I would love to hear from you! Thank you for allowing me to share my story!
It has been a pleasure serving the online community through my business and I'm thankful for all the wonderful people I've been able to meet.

A Touch of Tabitha
But, after a year of colic and sleepless nights, I decided that this was not the time to work my business. So, I put "House of Thread" on hold until I felt I could handle it.
Five years later, I've decided that this is the time. Now this time I went back to the county office to apply for my new business name - "A Touch of Tabitha."
Through these past five years, the Lord has taught me a lot through a woman in the Bible. You guessed it - her name was Tabitha. Really her name is Dorcas, but it is translated as Tabitha. I actually wanted to name my little girl Tabitha, but my husband didn't want that name. So now I'm named my business after her.
Tabitha was a seamstress who blessed a lot of people through her work. You can read her story, as short as it is, in the Bible at Acts 9. Tabitha's story has inspired me so much and I felt that I have "a Touch of Tabitha" in me. That explains the name for my business.
